Kim "sOs" Yoo Jin is the reigning WCS Global Finals Champion, and arguably the most successful Heart of the Swarm player. His BlizzCon title was his second Global Finals victory, giving him wins at two of HotS' three Global Finals. sOs is known for his unpredictable, unorthodox strategies and his firm grip on the psychological aspect of StarCraft 2.
Soon after that victory, theScore eSports was able to talk to sOs about his successes in 2015, his satisfaction with his own play, and his thoughts about his next year in StarCraft 2.
Your win at BlizzCon gave you your second world championship and fifth premier title. Are you happy with your accomplishments in Heart of the Swarm?
First, there are people who have won BlizzCon but I am the only person to have won twice so I am very proud.
BlizzCon was your third $100,000 prize. Why do you perform so well in high-stakes tournaments?
I am curious about this as well. To me it’s all the same but I think that my opponents feel a lot of pressure.
How do you feel about your play in 2015 as a whole?
I was very weak at the start of 2015, but I eventually won so I’m content with that.
Are you excited to play Legacy of the Void? Do you think you will be similarly dominant?
Personally, as the winner, it is a bit of a pity because I played well in Heart of the Swarm. Still, I like the release date because everyone was getting a bit bored. As to my play, I think that if I get accustomed to it, I will find my own playstyle.
What was your favorite moments of the year?
Proleague KT series all-kill of the opponents, Proleague Finals and BlizzCon Finals.
Were there any times in the year where you weren’t as confident in your success, or were struggling with your play?
Yes, at the start of 2015 I was not very confident that I would make it to BlizzCon, but somehow I [made it and] won it.
Do you think your style has changed or improved throughout the course of the year?
At first my play was very weak so I started to watch a lot of other people and how they played and it turned around for the second half the season.
What do you think of Jin Air’s recent roster changes, and will the team perform well in SPL this year?
It’s a bit of a shame that the team couldn’t stick together, but Jang "Creator" Hyun Woo is here and winning is our first objective. I always think "if it’s not us that’s winning who will?" I have great pride in my team [to do well].
How are you spending the offseason between BlizzCon and the beginning of 2016? Are you still practicing hard?
Yes, I am working hard to get used to Legacy of the Void.
What are you most excited for in the coming year?
Winning in Legacy of the Void. I get a warm feeling inside just from imagining winning Proleague.
